If using the Fn+F2 fails to restart the wireless adapter, try this:
echo "0 or 1" > /proc/acpi/asus/wlan
Use 0 to turn it off and 1 to turn it on.
Use iwconfig to set the SSID
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid My-SSID
If you do not get an IPv4 address
sudo dhclient wlan0
